Regulatory status at a glance

BPC-157

Not FDA-approved for human use. Removed from FDA compounding 'Category 2' in April 2026 after nominations were withdrawn — a procedural change that does NOT by itself authorize compounding. A July 2026 FDA advisory committee will consider adding it to the 503A bulks list. Banned in sport by WADA (class S0) since 2022 and on the U.S. DoD prohibited list. Currently sold gray-market as 'research only.'

GHK-Cu

Topical GHK-Cu (as Copper Tripeptide-1) is a legal OTC cosmetic ingredient widely used in skincare products, and can be physician-prescribed as a compounded topical. Injectable GHK-Cu is in FDA compounding Category 2 (significant safety concerns) and cannot be legally compounded for injection; it is scheduled for February 2027 PCAC review. Not FDA-approved as a drug for any indication.

Key differences

  • GHK-Cu has genuine human evidence for one use: topical skin/wrinkle improvement is graded S. BPC-157 has no comparable human-trial support — its healing claim is graded A (animal).
  • The strongest evidence for each is route-specific: GHK-Cu applied topically to skin versus BPC-157 injected for systemic injury, where human data is absent.
  • Topical GHK-Cu is a legal cosmetic ingredient; injectable GHK-Cu and BPC-157 are not FDA-approved and cannot be legally compounded for injection.

The bottom line

GHK-Cu is the only one here with a real human-trial grade, and only for topical skin use; injected forms of both are unproven in people. We don't recommend either — the takeaway is that the evidence tracks the route, and the strongest data is topical, not injected.
